Overview

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a wireless technology used to identify, track, and manage assets or individuals using radio waves. An RFID system consists of tags (transponders) attached to objects and readers (interrogators) that detect and communicate with those tags. Unlike barcodes, RFID does not require line-of-sight and can scan multiple items simultaneously, making it ideal for high-speed and automated tracking.

At Incore, we understand RFID inside out. With years of experience and strong technical capabilities, we work closely with our trusted principals to source, design, and implement RFID solutions tailored to your specific operational needs—across industries such as logistics, manufacturing, security, retail, and healthcare.

Key Components of an RFID System

  • RFID Tags

Small devices containing a chip and antenna, attached to or embedded in an item or asset.

  • RFID Readers

Devices that transmit and receive radio waves to communicate with RFID tags.

  • Antenna

Facilitates the communication between the reader and the tag by emitting RF signals.

  • Software & Middleware

Captures, filters, and integrates RFID data into enterprise systems like ERP, WMS, or access control platforms.

Types of RFID Tags

  • Passive Tags

No internal power source; activated by the reader’s signal.

Cost-effective and commonly used in inventory, retail, and ID badges.

Limited range (a few centimeters to a few meters).

  • Active Tags

Contain a battery and can transmit signals independently.

Used in vehicle tracking, asset monitoring, or real-time location systems (RTLS).

Longer read range (up to 100 meters or more).

  • Semi-Passive (Battery-Assisted Passive)

Battery powers the chip but relies on reader signal for communication.

Ideal for cold chain monitoring or condition-based tracking.

Types of RFID Readers

  • Fixed Readers

Installed in fixed locations like gates, doorways, or conveyor belts for continuous scanning.

Ideal for warehouse, access control, and logistics hubs.

  • Handheld Readers

Portable and versatile, suitable for inventory checks, asset audits, and field operations.

  • Integrated Readers

Compact units combining antennas and readers, often used in kiosks or smart shelves.

Applications of RFID

  • Inventory & Warehouse Management

Track goods, reduce losses, automate stock counts.

  • Asset Tracking

Monitor high-value or mobile assets in real time.

  • Access Control

Secure entry for personnel and vehicles.

  • Retail

Enhance checkout speed, prevent theft, and improve stock visibility.

  • Healthcare

Track equipment, medication, or patient wristbands to ensure safety.

  • Logistics

Automate receiving, shipping, and fleet management.
